You cannot just change extension types - VOB's are DVD compliant files rquired to be able to play on a DVD player (they are in fact MPEG2 files).

Move your mouse pointer to the Guides section at the top of this page if you want to learn more about file conversions.

You could also try the Glossary tab.

Not completely sure but you may be able to rename your VOB files as MPG and play them through Windows Media Player.

boong,

As colw said...there are guides available that tell you how to convert from DVD (VOB/BUP/IFO) to AVI or MPEG.

Click on the "Guides" tab at the top of the page.

I was looking for the conversion guide, but I can't find them. Would they be titled something different?

To change these to .avi or .mpg, use a program designed for doing the conversion. As mentioned previously, you can't just re-name the extension. Try a Google search for a DVD to Mpeg converter. There are lots of them available. The process is not difficult with the programs I've used.

I'd do the same for the .mkv file, though I have never worked with one. Try here:

FYI, .ifos are files that contain the navigation InFOrmation for a DVD player, The .bups are BackUPs for the .ifos. The .vobs are Video OBjects that contain the video/audio info that you are interested in. :)

Cheers,
Frank

If you want to just watch the DVD-Video files that you have, why not just use a free software DVD player.

VLC Media Player.
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
Media Player Classic.
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=82303&package_id=84358
Cliprex DVD Player Professional or Cliprex DS DVD Player.

DVD Shrink.
