Hi, i'm well versed in copying my dvd's but until recently i wanted to put my cd collection on my computer in the "my music" folder. can you please tell me the basic steps to doing so and if i need any special software to rip it or should i just use windows media player which looks like it might do it. Thanks for your time.

Yeah, Windows Media Player should work fine. Just click the 'Rip' tab, and from what I remember, I think there are check boxes next to each track that WMP finds. Click all of them, then click 'Rip' somewhere. Sorry, I don't use WMP much anymore; I don't have any CDs (I just d/l), but I've ripped them before. They should be in the 'My Music' folder as you said.

For the best quality mp3s from CD Ripping, use EAC and LAME. (both free) Here's the guide:

For the best quality mp3s use EAC (exact audio copy) to rip your audio CDs and LAME to encode them. Follow this guide:
