consequences for pirating minors?

Ok I have a problem, I know a kid who's only 16 years old and he pirates dvd's and games I told him that it's against the law but he doesn't think there's any consequences for minors who do this. So I went online to see and I got to say I couldn't find anything, I know there's a 250,000 dollar fine and five years for adults who do this. But what about minors? If there are no consequences for kids who rent dvds or games and keep the copies they make, then I wish I was still that young. But I really don't want him to get in trouble, so any help will be appreciated.

Your friend needs to get a reality check. Age has no bearing on this. If he is illegally pirating movies and whatnot, and gets busted, he can be punished by the same laws. Fines, imprisonment, the whole nine yards.

Protection is irrelevant. |

How do you pirate a minor ;)
Seriously, when I was a kid it was true that piracy charges for minors were pretty much a slap-in-the-wrist offence (in the US anyway) but in the last 10-15 years the laws have been tightened the point where a minor can certainly get himself and his parents into a lot of trouble.

ssdj: With the Lag time on alot of these cases, and considering he's 16, it's likely the authorities would ask the court to prosecute as an adult. If it's on a small scale, then it's likely he won't get any criminal action, but lawsuits and whatnot could arise.
