IO Magic 16X IDVD16DD won't burn DVD-R disc.

Hi, i brought a IO Magic 16X DVD+/-R/RW. but it won't buy DVD-R discs. i saw some people saying about updateing firmware. but i downloaded the files and it would not upgrade my drive. but i can burn DVD+R discs. how can i fix this? thanks.

Hey guys. i solved my problem by updateing my firmware from G7C9 to G7K9. i was wondering. should i update it again. to some other ones? like to G7L9 or G7M9? thanks.

I have the same burner. I up dated the firmware 3 times since Nov. I am now finding almost any movie I burn to Memorex freezes and plain out quits after 4 chapters to the point where I have to unplug my player to get the disk out. Im woundering if updating was a mistake or if this burner is just a pile of crap?

I wrote I/o Magic tech and here is the reply regarding what brans they recomind.


Some DVD writers and players have trouble with specific brands of media.
We recommend using TDK, Maxell, Verbatim, Pioneer, Ritek or Princo
media. We also advise buying new media brands in small amounts until you
find one that works best.
