I have backed up a number of DVD (Over 100) and have not had a problem up until now.
I use ifoedit and usually for the longer movies will strip out all the extras so I will have just the movie. Not a problem here. On the even longer movies, I have re encoded them with no problem. But I have stumbled across a number of movies where the end result is a "fuzzy" movie. I really don't know how else to describe it.
The movies I have had problem with doing this are the following:

Heist
The Last Of The Mohicans
Jackie Brown
The Replacements
Any Given Sunday
Armaggedon

I have attempted to re encode them at different %'s but still get the same result. Any ideas on this would be helpful.
Thanks in Advance.

Are they warner bros films by any chance?
I have encoded quite a few films now and the only ones that give me that problem are warner bros films, it is because the first warner bros logo is a higher bitrate to the rest of the movie and messes every thing up, if this is the case you need to strip out .vob id 1 out of the first .vob file of the movie before encoding and this should fix the problem

Yes, I have read that in some previous threads. I have attempted to remove the WB logo and am still trying to get it done. I think most of them are WB movies but not all. I will continue to work at it and if come up with anything I will let everyone know.

use ifo edit to strip out the first vob id containing the logo, but leave the rest of the movie intact then re-encode and strip as usual, it should work fine then.
