Could someone recommend some good CD burning software(no DVD required): more convenient than built-in XP burner, system friendly, stable, compact, without unnecessary extras?

nero is the best there is, plain and simple

For the best quality mp3s use EAC (exact audio copy) to rip your audio CDs and LAME to encode them. Follow this guide:

I bought nero's package and had constant computer crashes. they were no help supporting the problem. i would not recommend Nero to anyone unless you have good troubleshooting knowledge and are willing to take a chance with your cash....

doesn't have very many options though. but for basic burning its okay. I trust Nero for burning at clone cd (v 3.3) for copies

Well, Nero looks convenient enough. But small note: I need create an .iso images to save it, for later burning. As far I know, Nero have not the .iso images creation feature.

nero creates its own image files, .nrg. but you can easily convert them to iso with ISOpen, which is a free utility.

As I find, Nero 6 supports creating an ISO Image file:

1.In Nero: go to Neros 'File > Burn Image' option and select the ISO image to work with.

2.From Nero Express, to select the option for 'Disc Image' or 'Saved Project' to select the ISO image file and burn to CD or DVD depending on the Image file.

Go to ebay and type in this item number 5748141554.
I can vouch for this guy. I purchased Nero 6 ULTRA from him and everything is great! No box or manuals. Just 2 CDs, one w/ the program and one w/ the updates. After the updates you still need to visit www.Nero.com to get the latest patch. So for about $35 bucks you can get a good deal on Nero Ultra.

Has anyone ever tried Alcohol 120% (yes its really the name of an app)? I rarely recommend non-freeware/shareware apps but Alcohol 120% is one sweet peace of equipment. It can create images of many different formats from many types of optical media. It also sets up a virtual CD/DVD drive on your PC that emulates a CD/DVD drive. You can use the image file like it was a CD or DVD (You can play it, rip it, or run software from it as if the disc was in one of your hardware CD/DVD drives)! It will also burn the image to disc (CD or DVD).

By chance, do you also have Roxio's "Easy CD/DV Creator" on your computer?

TC

I wouldn't want to F*ck any of the Kerry's. I've got some standards

whiteboyg,

Instead of saying "MB" say "Data" and instead of "mins" say "Audio" or "Sound Wave(s)." Cool?

The only way to create Audio-CDs that will play in all CD players is to put PCM audio tracks on them (not data). No matter what the bit-rate is the X-audio-format to PCM converter will sample the music at a fixed rate so the only thing that matters is how long (or how much) the sound file is when played (decompressed). The PCM format is closelly related to the Wave file format. 80 mins is all you are going to get out of a standard CD-R.
