Recently, two nforce4 motherboards were released to the market: the GIGABYTE "GA-K8NF-9," which is a standard nforce4 mobo @ $149 + shipping at newegg, and the CHAINTECH "VNF4/Ultra," which is an Nforce4 Ultra mobo @ $129 + shipping at newegg.

More than likely, one of these two boards will be in my next PC. But which one should I choose? Could someone explain the differences between nforce4 and nforce4 ultra?

The only difference that I could see from looking at newegg was that the Ultra board doesn't have any firewire ports, but I could always just buy a PCI card for that.

That's a nice board, but I don't need the SLI. If the price weren't so much higher, I might get it. But $270 for a mobo? Seems a little steep to me.

Of the two that aren't SLI boards, which would you choose? and why?

Yeah it's a little pricey! The way I look at it I won't be building another computer for a while and this is where the technology is heading.I already have a AMD64 3500 processor and a pair of 74gb Raptors. Both the boards you listed look nice.I have always used Asus or Intel boards so I can't tell you about those brands.I have used a Gigabyte video card in a machine I built two years ago no problems yet. Here are a couple of links to check out maybe you can get some answers there!

I would do search on the web as well and you can't go wrong with Newegg!

Thanks for the links. I think the general opinion is that I should go with the Ultra board. However, I think I will wait a month or two yet before I buy to see if any better boards come out in my price range. A SLI board would be nice, but I'm limiting myself to a max of $200, and I want an Nforce4 board. Given those limits, I doubt I'll get a SLI board.
