I've been fighting with this all day, so I hope ya'll can help me out.
I have a movie that is split into 2 AVI files. When I use WinAVI to turn them into DVD format I get 2 seperate sets of .VOB,.BUP, and .IFO Files with the same file names. Nero will not allow me to burn these to the same DVD disk because of duplicate file names. I have tried to change the file names in many different ways to create one continuous DVD-Video file, but I keep getting errors in Nero saying that "File allocation has failed, may result in unplayable DVD"
So, Should I:
A. Join the 2 AVI files into 1 and use WinAVI to recode to DVD? (Not my favorite choice since it took 2 hours to encode the first time)
B. Change filenames to ???? so that Nero can recognize and burn them correctly?
C. What do you suggest?
The current file names are as follows:
For Disk 1:
VIDEO_TS.BUP
VIDEO_TS.IFO
VTS_01_0.BUP
VTS_01_0.IFO
VTS_01_1.VOB
VTS_01_2.VOB
VTS_01_3.VOB
For Disk 2:
VIDEO_TS.BUP
VIDEO_TS.IFO
VTS_01_0.BUP
VTS_01_0.IFO
VTS_01_1.VOB
VTS_01_2.VOB
Hope I've given enough info. Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi there,
You can use VirtualDub to join your 2 .AVI files.
It will takes just a few minutes..
Make sure to have Video and Audio in Direct something, I have the info at home.
Then pass your final .AVI in VSO DivXtoDVD
http://www.vso-software.fr/
Runs very nice and the end result is awsome...
Future release of DivXtoDVD will let you convert more than 1 file, so it says on their website...

In WinAvi you can use the Batch Conversion function.
Bottom button on the right.
Click Add File, select the type of project you are creating, then select the different files you want to add while holding Ctrl key and click Open when done.
WinAvi can burn also.
Bottom button on the left.

I use a small limited function program called movie joiner found at http://MovieToolbox.com
. It's a very simple program to use and its free to use with some limitations on splitting. I was having trouble joining some file with VirtualDub when I found it.

Veblin, I tried to use the batch conversion, but it still considers them seperate files. As for the movie tool box, I'll look at it. I try to keep things simple (and use the fewest programs possible) Is there a simple easy to use program that will join 2 AVI files no matter what format they are in?

I used the movie joiner from movietoolbox.com. It worked! Unregistered version can only do up to 3 files, and it throws up a splash screen before program start and after, but it worked ok. Perhaps I can find a key somewhere :) Haven't converted it yet, but it should work fine. Thanks for the help, if anything goes wrong, I'll let ya'll know.

Nero Vision Express if you have it will also put 2 AVI's on a dvd along with a menu if needed. Converts and then burns.
It would depend of the final size of the files what you burn to. If bigger than a single layer you could probably run the files through Shrink.

NeroVision Express is sweet... Drag in your video files, you can merge and do with or without menus and even do 2 movies per dvd (although it took me 6 hours to transcode and burn)...
NVE makes it SO EASY... But to be honest with you, I dunno if it is the BEST quality burn you can get... Maybe with more granular tools you can maintain better video... If there are such proggys, let me know :)
PS: DO NOT USE THE AUTO CHAPTER FEATURE OR ELSE YOU WILL CRY :) It takes quiet some time!

Know what...
I am now using the WinAVI then burn with Nero.
takes me under 35 minutes to encode a dvd...
maybe your cpu/util is causing the 2 hr delay!

I have the same problem as this title.
I realize what Veblin said:
Quote: In WinAvi you can use the Batch Conversion function.
Bottom button on the right.
Click Add File.......Bottom button on the left.
Batch mode can convert more than 1 file, but what will their names be? will it be the same like 'VIDEO_TS.BUP VIDEO_TS.IFO VTS_01_0.BUP ',
that's not gonna help at all, it still cant burn in a single DVD...

with Nero recode you can add as many movies with the same file names as you want as long as you dont go over the capacity on the disc. you can choose dvd files on top and the add both of the movies. to find it better it is in the smartstart menu as copy multiple dvd-movies to one. good luck

I don't quite follow you guys,
the 'Nero Recoder' is the same thing as the regular Nero??
and, if i put AVI or mpeg files in 'VIDEO_TS' in the DVD files, can it still work on the DVD player?

IF YOU USE WINAVI BATCH MODE TO CONVERT BOTH FILES
& SAVE BOTH DISC 1 & DISC 2 TO SAME FILE(i'e create a new file )YOU'LL END UP WITH :-
VIDEO_TS.BUP
VIDEO_TS.IFO
VTS_01_0.BUP
VTS_01_0.IFO
VTS_01_1.VOB
VTS_01_2.VOB
VTS_01_3.VOB
VIDEO_TS.BUP
VIDEO_TS.IFO
VTS_02_0.BUP
VTS_02_0.IFO
VTS_02_1.VOB
VTS_02_2.VOB
BURN THIS WITH COPYTODVD OR Nero YOUR CHOICE ?
AND THATS YOUR PROBLEM SOLVED NO NEED TO MESS ABOUT WITH 2 OR 3 DIFFERENT PROGRAMS WHEN WINAVI DOES IT ALL FOR U!!
HOPE THIS HELPS
