Ok, I have my demuxed .d2v file and have the setting all set up in Tmpenc to roll out NTSC, 16:9, etc...

Now I need to shrink the file, therefore encode it at a lower rate. How exactly is this done.

I have used REMpeg and notice you have a little slider bar to adjust the average bitrate and scalefactor. How does one accomplish the scalefactor setting in Tempeg. Any help here would be great.

Also....if there isnt a slider bar, or anyway to adjust the scalefactor% in Tempeg, then what is the point of recoding the movie to the same exact size? doenst make sense to me, maybe someone can make an analogy because I think I understand it, but I just dont know what the point of re-encoding the film is for if you cant lower the scale factor and make it smaller.

thanks in advance!

When you open up TMPGEnc, it should have the project wizard right there for you. If not, you can open it up under file. From there you can pick CBR or VBR. There are a few ways to figure out what bitrate to encode at. I just figure how many mb's per vob I need and select that in the bitrate setting window. I would suggest picking VBR since it gives you a better quality picture, but it will take longer to encode. There are many different settings to chose from in TMPGEnc, but choose wisely. Make sure in the encoding window, it is set to ES for a dvd burn or your file will be pretty much limited to your PC.

give me your e-mail address and I'll send you a little bitrate calculator that I wrote in Microsoft Excel. I also use TMPG and this little calculator should help you out. You need audio file size, movie length, and average bitrate. Enter those values and it spits out a new average bitrate to enter into TMPG.

I wouldn't send your e-mail address to anyone. Read the forum rules. There are plenty of free programs for bitrate calcs. Try here:http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/software2.htm
