What programs have you already tried? I know that VirtualDub can demux .avi (Divx / Xvid) files. It will save the file as .wav but it will be what ever the original audio source was (unless changed to be other wise).

Actually it creates a Wave file of what ever format the original source file was. ie. If you were saving an AC3 audio stream it would create an AC3-Wave file (Normal Wave files are of type PCM; PCM-Wave). This can be done with Mp3s aswell (Mp3-Wave).

This will only salvage 2 channels of the AC3 file (L and R stereo):

1) Save the audio stream with VirtualDub

2) Change the ".wav" file extension on the audio source file to ".ac3"

3) Open BeSweet

4) Use BeSweet to convert the AC3-Wave file to a Stereo-Wave file

If you still need to use an AC3 file:

5) Open ffmpegGUI

6) Use ffmpegGUI to create an AC3 file from the audio Wave file

Easy right,
Ced

Hi there everybody
does anyone have any idea how to merge two AVI files when the audio bitrate used in the two files is different?
I have tried encoding both of them with DR DVD and then joining them with Virtual dub (by the way, is this the right software for the job...?) but I get an error.
Second question... is it normal for Adobe premiere to take ages to join two (pretty big) AVI files?
