Making Dual Layer Backups

I have an Optorite 1205 which is dual layer. What I'm wondering is if I can make dual layer backups of my commercial DVDs onto dual layer disks and will they work in a stand alone DVD player.

Is there a requirement of the hardware to have a certain feature to accomplish this, or can I just use DVD Shrink + Nero to do this?

Yes you can make D/L backups, I have done this with AnyDVD & CloneDVD2. I cant give you advice with DVDshrink + Nero, dont know much about those.

You can just use DVD Decrypter.
Rip.
Mode > ISO > Read
Burn.
Mode > ISO > Write

DVD Shrink + Nero will also work.
DVD Shrink > Edit > Preferences... > Target DVD size: > DVD-9(8.5GB)

I seem to remember reading something about bit offsetting that said that certain DL drives couldn't produce a dual layer disc that would work in home DVD players.

Sounds like that's not the case though.

so, no more advice on dual layer backups? Is it safe to assume that there would be no hardware limitations that would prevent doing a backup to a dual layer disk and playing it on a standalone DVD player.

Mine work fine, I use shrink and nero. I don't have ghetto ass dvd players, so I don't have to worry about bit settings. Have you backed up using single layer discs yet?
