more likely spyware on the computer as i've seen some dust bunny infested computers still working all right. run ad-aware se & spybot s&d to get rid of spyware & run your antivirus program plus do an online scan with antivirus.com. but clean out your windows cookies, temp & temporary internet folders & do a scandisk for errors

As far as the dust is concerned, a light coating may not be too much of a problem but excessive amounts will overheat the PC in 2 ways. First the dust layer will absorb the heat and hold it like a blanket. Second it restricts the air flow by blocking the vent holes and fan blades and also slows air speed through the system. Not the best thing for your PC.

I would go with the brush on the exposed area and a can of air for the area you can't get at as suggested. I keep a thin piece of foam air conditioner filter over my intake holes. It catches most of the dust before it gets inside and is easier to keep clean.
