I ?am interested in purchasing a used computer because the one I have is not cutting it?
I have a P3 530Mhz with 192 (ram) and it takes me about 2.5 hours just two back up a DvD?This Tech guy at my sisters work is selling me a P4 1.5 Ghz with 512MB (ram) for $140 bucks? And said that I would take me about half an hour to back up a movie?

Is P4 1.5Ghz with (ram) 512MB better than my P3 @ 530Mhz with 192MB (ram)

Can you guys tell me what you think?

Should I buy it or not?and why?

thanks

You would be more then doubling your CPU speed and your RAM. Should see a big diffrence in DVD Back up times. As of is this computer worth it? Depends on the motherboard is it a complete system and case? Do you know how to upgrade mother boards yourself? If so I bet you could get somthing even better with just a little bit more money. But if you do decided to buy it then make sure you get a 30 to 60 day warenty on it incase you run into any problems.

Is that a complete pc with mobo and hdd or just cpu and memory stick? Thats a pretty good deal for complete pc. Thats a little high for only cpu and memory and if thats the case you don't know if it is compatable with your mobo and bios. It would probably be a good idea to get a new mobo too.

As far as backup times go that depends on the software and quality settings you use. I don't believe you can do a complete backup in half an hour unless you are useing some software like intervidio dvd copy 3 making a backup of less than 4.3 gb and burning on the fly.

its a good deal if there is no problem with mobo or ram but your taking your chances on it with no warranty at all.

Thats probably about the right price and it would be a big step up from what you've got now.

I'm building a new pc, P4 2.8 512 ram 80gb SATA hhd and am going to sell this one, AMD Athlon T-bird 1.33, 512 ram, 40gb hdd, 1 cdrw, and 1 cd-rom for $200. I,m keeping my dvdrw's.

find out what type of ram used such as ddr or rambus, prefer ddr ram. also find out what type of cpu socket is on motherboard as you'll want the 478 socket not the basterdized p3 which uses a 425 socket i think so you might be able to upgrade later

My thoughs exactly ddp. I bet a nickel to a dollar its the funky p3 socket with the (ram of the future lol) rambus. Be sure that it is socket 478 and ddr or I would have to pass as well.
