Hi
I?m new to this game and this site. I have looked on other forums and this one seems to be the best supported so I will ask the question here in the hope of a quicker more informed reply. I am waiting for my new computer coming in a few days, which will be equipped with a Pioneer A03 Burner; I will be running Windows XP operating system. My question is what software will I need to be able to watch and copy multi region DVD's. My system will be coming with Vob instant CD DVD v6, Sonic my DVD v2.3 and Power DVD v4. I have downloaded some software off the various sites on the web but I am unsure which ones will work with XP and which ones are the best. I will need to know which program to make my pioneer drive region free, my software DVD player region free and Windows XP region free without any problems hopefully. The other programs I will need will be for ripping and burning. If anyone does suggest some software can you please include a link for downloading? Any answers to these questions will be greatly appreciated.
Many Thanks
coach.

Hardware region patch is from the French site, can't remember the URL now. For PowerDVD and XP region patch, use DVD Genie.

If you want to copy DVDs to DVD-Rs, read through our DVD-R forum -- basically just DVD ripper is required for small DVDs (less than 4.36GB), good ones are SmartRipper (for general purpose) and DVD Decrypter (which can create you an ISO image out of <4.36GB DVD and burn it to DVD-R directly). For bigger DVDs you need bunch of other stuff like VOBRator and IFOEdit.

Thanks for the reply. I have all of the items you have mentioned, I am interested in the hardware region patch if you can remember where you saw it.

It's in here:

http://perso.club-internet.fr/farzeno/firmware/

But no RPC-1 (=region free) patch available, unfortunately. Looks like you need to invest $40 for region free DVD-ROM drive as well :-)

Hi, I too also just got windows xp. I have downloaded the latest DVD Genie (4.5) to try to get around the 5 region change limit on my drive using Power DVD 3.

The genie does not work. I am down to only 2 region changes left. Does anyone have any idea sa to how I can get around this?

If you say the DVD genie works on XP, how should I be using it.

Thanks

Genie works like a charm -- it resets PowerDVD's region change limit, but it DOESN'T do it for your region-locked drive. There isn't such program in the world that could reset your drive's physical region change limit, you need to get RPC-1 firmware to your drive in order to bypass that one.

I didn't think my drive was limited, just XP. Is there anyway to check if it is limited or not, as I still do not believe it is the drive.

To check it I went to devices in system and check it as DVD Genies site said about how to check after manual registry changed on XP.

Hi again,

Just downloaded the Drive Info V2 software to check if the drive was locked or not. As I suspected the drive is NOT locked.

I decided to install DVD genie again. I went to the power DVD tab, and selected Region 1 also checking the Alternate Region Settting box. I hit apply and as the instructions said, closed it down and waited for a little while.

I then ran Power DVD and it was STILL in Region 2. I loaded DVD Genie back up and it was still in Region 1.

THe reset REgion changes box remains greyed out (should this be?)

What can I do? Is this what you have done?

Or does it only work after all the changes have run out (something I do not want to test).

Th DVD-ROM Drive I have is a Relisys DVD-ROM 16x. Checked their site and it si region free.

So, its either DVD Genie OR XP
