Hi all,

I want to know if there is
* any box out there with power supply included that can take multiple hard drives
* the box is needed for hard drives only
* the box will allow the computer to access the hard drives via USB/Firewire/PCI

For instance the Acomadata external hard drives have a connecting point where on you can stack multiple hard drives and it will use only one power cord. However that is an expensive one.

Before anyone answers me, please do not suggest
* RAID
* using PCI based EIDE controller

Any discussion on this topic is also appreciated.

Thanks

well by server tower if you mean a box with alot of bays for the hard drives then thats not what I am looking for.

I am actually looking for a case that can hold the hard drives and has a seperate power line.

Thanks

I only knew what were NAS/SAN and so did little bit of reading on it and it looks like SAN is for enterprises so its not a viable solution.

On the other hand, NAS - Network Attached Storage seems fine and I can see that some NAS hard drives are sold in the market. But is this economical for a home user ??

The primary reason why I asked that is, I have lots of media >500G and it might increase. So I wanted to decouple the hard drives from the PC (which runs XP MCE - media center edition ) and use the hard drives only when I need to access them.

Thanks

That doesnt solve the problem because then I would be able to put only one hard drive in at a time.

Thanks
