For those who reauthor movie only, (to get rid of the black screen in the beginning of the movie) first rip all files with latest dvddecrypter, then use DVD2One and uncheck the empty "cells" at the beginning. This will give you a clean movie. Then you can compress/process with dvdshrink, which I think is better for that purpose.

i had to use new DVD Decrypter myself.
Do you guys talk about the begining of the movie where it is blank (BLACK) for like 5 minutes. If so it has nothing to do with copy just the movie its self.

Ok - so this has gotten my interest for most of the night and this is what I've come up with.

Using the new version of CloneDVD (beta version) in combination w/AnyDVD worked on The Grudge, and similar movies.

Using DVD Decrypter in File Mode and then editing with DVD Shrink leaves a black "dead film" in the begining of the movie, which in turn, makes playback screwy. Using DVD2One 1.5.1 instead of DVD Shrink, you can emove blocks 1-9 (or 10, i dont remember) of empty space (you'll see playtime=0). This will work, and no "dead film".

More updates to come.

I used DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink for The Grudge and Ray to back up the whole dvd.
In dycrypter click mode/read as an iso file. Save it to a folder.
After dycrypter does it's thing go back and set decrypter to mode/write/iso and close decrypter.

Then open DVD Shrink, click file/open iso image, select the iso image you just created with decrypter. Let shrink do the analyze then click on the folder that says unreferanced material. Then where it say compression "automatic" in the drop down to your right click on it and change it to still pictures.
Do this just for the unreferanced folder.
Uncheck the French language to get to 4300 MB or under then hit back up and burn with decrypter. Works all the time!

Try just copying the main movie straight from your dvd rom to your HD with AnyDVD running. I think the main movie was VOB 7. Reauthor with shrink and Voila. It works.

I dont find that decryter is an issue at all...clone dvd just wont encode/compress it. DVD Shrink did but I had to re-autor and clip the section of black screen out, then used clone dvd to write it. Turned out perfect if all you care to create a backup for is the movie itself.

I don't know if anybody has mentioned this. Just skimmed through this thread.

I could not rip Ray or The Grudge while AnyDVD was running.

I turned off AnyDVD. Using just DVD Decrypter v3.5.2.0 I was able to rip both Ray and The Grudge.

This one took awhile to figure out for me but this is what i did just to get a backup copy of the movie with no menus or extra stuff. i used the the new DVD Decrypter. went to the submenu used edit and then selected main movie files + ifo's. then i used DVD2One went through that process when i got to the menu with all the cells deselect the first 10 cells then it will process and your ready to burn. i got a great burn with no dead air and in total it took about 9min to decrypt and about 17min to process

i couldn't back-up "THE GRUDGE",dvd decryptor or shrink didnt work for me even while having AnyDVD run in the background, so i downloaded dvdfab platnium. i only the trial one but i thing i'll just buy the program.
DVDIdle.com/dvd-fab-platinum.htm" class="korostus" target="_blank">http://www.DVDIdle.com/dvd-fab-platinum.htm i used the express icon, i'm new to this program but thats what i did to copy "THE GRUDGE" and it worked just fine. They have other software that works like AnyDVD but i haven't been able to try it it seems like it's good.

I got Grudge to backup by using the original ******** Express. Read somewhere about running the new AnyDVD
program on the disk a couple of times then start up the program and copy just the movie and not the entire disk and BAM worked like a charm. I tried DVDdecrypter, CloneDVD, and just about every other program I could find but this was the only way I could get it backed up. Wanted to let others know it can be done with a little work.

I have A Lite-on and I've backed up Ray and the grudge with just decrypter and shrink. No problems. I just always make sure there is nothing running in the background when I rip, encode or burn the movie. I've never had a bad burn yet and I have over 200 movies.

I had NO PROBLEM Backing up "The Grudge" using AnyDVD with DVDShrink. Using Re-Author mode it was easy! Just drag the main movie over & back it up.

The Grudge will back up with either: (Used Sony 8x)

DVD DeCrypter & DVD Shrink & Nero6. 62 minutes total.

or

AnyDVD & DVD Shrink & Nero6. 50 minutes total.

If you are having problems it's not the software.

Both burns played perfect.
