Just wondering if anyone knew what the new protection added to new release DVDs are, and from what companies.
I've read posts about it being structure protection, but was interested if anyone could give further details and companies using it. (Im assuming its on movies like The Forgotten, The Grudge, and Little Black Book.)

Wrapping this up...
Sony's ARccOS is just another encryption type.
The structure protection is not part of ARccOS, but empty sectors on the disk, this is what leaves the black, or no film at the begining of a backup.
(Sorry about the 1000 questions...working on writing some guides and am trying to get my stuff straight)

Shrink is not updated for the new protection. Only DVD Decrypter and AnyDVD can decrypt it. You can run AnyDVD behind Shrink or use Decrypter first and run those files through Shrink after.

Yes you are correct. All you will see is the red fox in your system tray telling you AnyDVD is working.

No it's not. If it was a new type of encryption existing players wouldn't be able to play the discs. It creates unreadable sectors on the disc that aren't referenced anywhere in the IFO files (meaning a player will never try to read those sectors so it won't have playback problems).

So, is ARccOS the cause of the black film at the begining of the rip?

The program designer for Shrink now works for Nero. Thats why Nero Recode looks so much like Shrink except Recode can't decrypt. I doubt there will be an update but it would be nice. However you can run AnyDVD in the background with Shrink to do the new encryptions or use Decrypter first and then run the files through Shrink.

Andoru, There is nothing wrong with the quality Shrink produces. It is very good and the price can't be beat. Its only problem at this time is it can't decrypt the new protection being use. Also the statement that DVD Fab cracks the new encryption is very doubtful. I'm sure that if it did somewhere in the several hundred posts about the new encryption it would have been mentioned. Only DVD Decrypter and AnyDVD work on the new encryption at this time.

Yes Dvd Fab does crack the new protection they update it almost every week its worth the 40$ for a liscense and free updates for life. It copied little black book,Resident Evil 2, The Grudge and The Forgotten just fine.

I said it was doubtful not out of the question. Its strange that in all the posts about fixing the new encryption DVD Fab was never mentioned. If they fixed DVD Fab then it had to be recently since it hasn't been brought up as a program to use on the new encryption. I may try it if I have time. Also your remarks at the end of the post was not called for. I did not attack you in any way just stated the fact that DVD Fab was never suggested to be used on the new encryption.

Well anyways sorry about that but dvd fabs been updated to handle the new protection since the beginning of January. Its a great program worth buying a liscense for. They have a fourm that asks what you would like to see in there program and they listen and help too. Its easier than using decryp and shrink just click and got with dvd fab
