I have tried everything to burn dvd's and am at wit's end here.

WinXP
DVD drive - CyberHome dx162d-a
ASPI - Adaptec 4.71.2
Nero Recode v. 2.1.1.24
Verbatim MCC DVD+R 8x

Used DVD Decrypter to rip the DVD to the hard drive.
I am trying to burn with DVDShrink 3.2 now, will post results when I have them.

here's the error log from Nero

You say that it got 91% through "burning the image" and failed. Do you mean "burning the image" to the dvd? So you've successfully ripped with DVD Decrypter? Did you do it in iso mode, or file mode? Are you trying to copy the whole thing, or run it through DVD Shrink? How big is it?

I ripped it with DVD Decrypter in file mode to my hard drive then tried Nero Recode 2.1 and DVD Shrink 3.2 to burn the movie to DVD. The error log states "Could not perform end of Disc-at-once"

Why use Nero Recode and dvd shrink? Those are essentially equivalent applications. One or the other should do the trick. If I were you, I'd just use dvd shrink.

I tried using Nero Recode first and when that failed a few times I went out and got DVD Shrink. I am getting the same failure regardless of which program I use.

Have you tried burning something else? This would help determine whether the problem is with your source files.

I have tried several movies and a data DVD and nothing completes. They all burn fine until it tries to close the disk at which time it fails.

Well, at this point I would rule out software (you've tried two different ones) and the sources you are copying (happens to all of them).

That leaves two possibilities:

1) the burner

2) the media

I just did a quick search on your burner, and the results were "mixed" (putting it kindly). Others have reported similar problems with this burner. One hopeful note, though, is a reference I saw to a bios upgrade. Do you know what bios you have in your burner?

You might try a different brand, and type, of media. While I think the media you are using has a reputation for quality, I've known good media to not like particular hardware (go figure). Since you are using +R, get some good -R and give it a shot.

I upgraded to the latest firmware 130F for the burner. Prior to that upgrade from 120F I wasn't able to burn at all.

I will go get some -R media, it just sucks because I bought a spindle of 50 of the Verbatim +R. oh well...

I find that DVDecrypter can be a pain...I always use DVD Shrink and burn w/ Nero Burning ROM, I have had absolutely no problems with that. The only time i use decrypter is if for some reason Shrink wont allow me to back up my dvd.

what's frustrating is that it rips DVD's fine but won't write anything. I did get firmware 140F from cyberdrive but that didn't fix my problem. The only other suggestion they had was to mail it back to them on an RMA and I would get a replacement in 3-5 weeks. that seems a little high on a drive that has never worked.

Breaker - I too have had that same problem. I also use DVD Decrypter, Shrink, Nero. My problem wasn't my burners it was the media itself. I am hit or miss with Memorex not being able to finalize the disc. I have never had this problem with Ritek or TY's.

With firmware 140F, Maxell + and -R discs may very well be the best choices; just make sure that they are made in Japan and not Taiwan (look above the UPC). I have not made a single coaster using Maxell -R with firmware 140F.
