splitting dvds with ifoedit....default.pls??

Just wondering what the "default.pls" file is that ifoedit puts in my disc1 and disc2 directories every time I split a movie??? Does this have to be burned to the disc as well or can it be deleted? Windows explorer identifies it as an audio play list.
