I'm trying to convert a divx file (that has 5 channels of audio) to vcd format. I've tried both TMPEnc and VirtualDub. With TMPEnc it won't recognise the .avi file when I try to select it for the audio source - the video portion is fine. So I tried extracting the audio with VirtualDub. Just saving as a wav gives me a 150MB file that plays, but is distorted. After setting the options in VirtualDub I get an error message: The requested audio compression is not compatible with the input format. Check that the sample rate and channel count of the input match those of the requested format.
And I have chosen no compression in VirtualDub.

Can anyone help??

Cheers

hey just go into VD and instead of selecting no compression select .avi audio and then select full processing mode. then go to the file tab and select save .wav file. and whallah. otherwise the audio will output as an mp3 which will not be able to combine with the m1v video file file.

I'm having the EXACT same problem. I appreciate the advise rocketman, but I continue to get the same message. We'll call the movie that I'm trying to convert to VCD "M.D.". I downloaded it in 2 .avi halves and both react the same to VD & TMPGENC. The files are about 700MB ea. and I'd really like to get them burned and clear up some HD space but its worthless w/o audio.

Thanks,

turfbag: Ok, when you select the AVI with TMPGEnc, you get the error msg. No prob, leave it like that, but click the Audio source next and select the WAV you saved in VDub like rocketman instructed, this way TMPGEnc will ignore the AVI's original audio and use the newly created WAV as an input file instead.

yep i used to have the same prob but then i tried that and it worked great. make sure that the wav audio file is selected and not the avi audio as source.

I have a avi movie that doesnt have sound. When i go to VDub and push play i get a error "The requested audio copression is not compatible with the input format. Check that the sampling rate and channel count of the input match those of the requested format". I tried to save the sound in WAV format but then i get the same error.
Can you help me to get the sound back?

jpese: Your AVI probably has AC3 audio, download audiofilters package from doom9 to get it working.

I've got the same problem trying to convert a divx file with 5 channels of audio to vcd format. I allways use VirtualDub to extract the audio into a wav-file, and TMPEnc to create an mpg-file form the avi and wav.
I do have the right codecs installed I guess, because WMP and the Playa play the movie OK with sound. Whatever I try in Virtualdub I keep getting the same error message: The requested audio compression is not compatible with the input format. Check that the sample rate and channel count of the input match those of the requested format.
I don't understand the advise of rocketman, because I allways select .avi audio and besides that the no compression option - as recommended at vcdhelp.

Has anyone who had this same problem managed to find a solution??

i sorted this by getting HeadAC3he from doom9.org - firstly use TMPGeng to extract the audio to a WAV file, use direct stream copy mode. then rename it to a .ac3 - 'cos that's what it is. then use HeadAC3he to convert the AC3 file into a stereo raw WAV file, and use Panasonic Mpeg encoder or whatever, give your original DivX AVI file as the video source and the WAV you just created as your audio source. sorted! hope this has helped.
