I have a Sony DRU-530A and haven't had any problems with it until this evening. I'm getting a Power Calibration Error, and have read that it usually means the media is bad, however I have already burnt around 160+ DVDs with the same media type and all have worked flawlessly.

I can't think of anything that has changed, and tried burning at both 2x and 4x as well as using a program other than Nero but all to no avail.

Can any of you help me determine what's wrong with this? If you need any other info I'll be happy to give it to you.

Hey joe, that -4x media is the first thing I would change. The code is gsc-002. I came across 2 brands of dvd-4x with that code. Fortis and Gigastore..
These are probably store brand name-generic media. They may burn ok for a while, but will haunt you later.

Same problem with different Burning programs.Definitely try some better media. Check sony's site for media compatable for your burner. You may also want to check for the latest firmware update.HA1 TA1 is your firmware. You could also update Nero to the latest version-6.6

Well, as I said, I tried different media and got some stuff from supermediastore that was generic stuff but they had compatibility with the Sony DRU-530A, and no complaints in the ratings for that particular media.

I went ahead and pulled the drive out, went to Wal-Mart and exchanged it. I ended up getting a DRU-540A, and tried it with the same media and it burnt fine.

So I think that the drive was just shot.

Whoever said nothing is impossible never tried to slam a revolving door.

MMMM..The only good drives SONY made is the 500a and the 510a...I used a 530a and it was trouble..they sent me a 540a it was trouble....I can tell you I have burnt with name brand burners and find that NEC is one of the BEST..I mean that...if you like Sony( I still use these 2..too).. 500a/500ul..or 510a/510ul are the best UL..meaning external..but you can put the A's in an external case...out

A DVD is Like a Woman. It either Will or Won't!
