I have this maxtor 80 gb harddrive that one day i woke up to find that it is not recognized anymore. I think it was defragmenting and either my girl turned it off or the power went out briefly in the middle of it. When i click on it it says I/O error and it is in an unrecognizable format. I tried to reformat the drive and it got to 98% before it came up with an error saying it could not continue because it was in the wrong format. It is only 2 months old and the only thing i had on the drive was about 30gb of music. I would like to format the drive if anyone knows any way i can or any programs to help me let me know.

what windows are you using & download the maxtor diagnostic disk to see if any problems with drive. as still under warranty, it can be replaced.

did you go into disk management to delete that partition & make a new one before trying to format the drive??
