can't get vob file to edit in Premiere Pro 1.0

I am trying to splice little clips from a movie(DVD) into the montage section of a video project for school. I used 'DVD Shrink' to isolate the 2 minutes that I am taking 3-15 second clips from.

i first just changed the vob to mpg and imported. i could see it play fine in the preview window, but when i put it into the final timeline, the frames jump forward/backward and the music goes along just fine.

i've since tried lots of different conversions and such; 'mpg-vcr', 'dvd2avi'(in which the avi i tried to import Adobe told me that the avi was damaged or unsupported).

the mpg-vcr saved all of the little clips i wanted, but JUST AS BEFORE the files will play fine in the preview and then be jumbled as all heck when they get into the timeline...
