I've been using my Sony DW22A DL burner (external) at school on a new (purchased last month) HP to back-up various materials, movies, etc. using decrypter and shrink with no problems...not one coaster using Verbatim media.

I took the burner home and hooked it up tp my HP Pavillion zv5000 (purchased this fall) and have gotten nothing BUT coasters with the Verbatim media.

When I am burning at homethe buffer (both system and device) jump around a lot. In decrypter I keep getting the error saying "Unable to write to address. Address Invalid." Sometimes it gets halfway through the burn and comes up with this. Sometimes it happens at 50%. There seems to be no problem ripping, just writing.

My Primary IDE is DMA Ultra DMA 5
My secondary is DMA Word Mode DMA 2

USB device says that the device is working properly.

I am at a loss...any ideas? Anyone? I posted in the Newbie section lastweek with no help at all. I was hoping someone here could shed some light.

Back to square one...Backed up two movies after making adjustments and now I'm back to where I started...three more coasters this morning after following the exact same procedures fom before. The only difference was I used Shrink to grab movie only and back up to hd. Tried to burn w/ decrypter and got the same log as I posted before. Any new ideas?

Get some RW discs til you work out the problem. Post a recent error log.

Decrypter is set on MAX...the same setting I used at school. The error log is the exact same as I posted already...the exact same. I don't know what to think. I will definately be getting some RW's. Thanks.

There is something wrong when you are reading the DVD.

A 4.7 GB DVD in 9 seconds? Where are all the files(VOB,IFO,BUP)?

The Bus reset is the trouble. Check the BIOS setting for DMA enabled and the power settings. The device maager may show DMA but it may not be enabled.

Memory may also be a problem.

You should try a lower burn speed to see what happens.
