Hi Guys

System:
XP Pro SP2
Burner: Lite-On 812s
Ripping Software: DVD Shrink 3.2 & DVD Decrypter 3.5.2.0

Burning Software: Nero 6.3

I have been burning DVD backup copies for over a year now and everything works great.

Now the problem is that all the new DVDs i buy and want to make my backup copy of are not working.

I can rip the DVD, and I can burn the new DVD, but it will not work in my home DVD player. It will still work on my computer's DVD player though.

And that is the problem, if the DVD is older then 8 months I can rip it and burn it, and it work great in my home player, but ALL the new DVDs that I buy and copy WILL NOT work.

Did they come out with a new DVD protection system? And if so, why can I still rip them and have it work on my computer, but not my home DVD player.

Some of the movies that I can not make a backup copy of once i bought it:
i robot
All 3 Lord of the Ring Extendend Editions
The Bourne Suptrmacy

p.s I have not changed my burner, or home DVD player

Thx

If you are using nero's burning rom, you may want to update it since you have installed SP2.
http://ww2.nero.com/us/Support_News_Service_Pack_2_Inquiries.html

Also, have you been using different media? If so, you may want to update your firmware as well. Don't forget to derag your hard drive, especially if you back up a lot of movies. As far as new protections, I use shrink and nero for my single layer backups. The only movies shrink wasn't able to rip for me(and I backup a shit load of movies) are the tristar/columbia releases since mid december(RE). I use decrypter first for those. All the movies you mentioned worked normal for me and should not be a problem for shrink.

Thxs for the fast reply.

but alas, I bought a 100 pack of DVDs and I have about 50 left.

The DVDs work fine. I just got done ripping & burning "Hidalgo" (which is and EXCELLENT movie) and I'm currently watching the ripped copy on my home DVD player now.

I have also tried burning the ripped files with Alcohol 120 with no luck.

Any more ideas would be great.

thx in advance.

thx for the reply wolfniggr

I have not changed my media at all, stilling using my first 100 pack.

I have update my firmware to the newest version from lite-on.

My computer also derags itself every monday morning while I'm at work.

the kicker is that if the movie is older then 5-8 months, I can burn them EVERY TIME. It's just these new DVDs that are pissing me off ... lol

thxs in advance

I dont think I've had that problem yet... but I use a fantastic program called AnyDVD to help backup my dvds. I use it with DVD Shrink. AnyDVD is a nifty little program that Decrypts your dvd so when you try to burn it, its like the encryption isnt there! Also, you can watch DVDs from ANY REGION!

Have you tried 2.4x?

Have you checked your computer for malware?

I have not tried 2.4x, i will give that a try.

For malware, i think I'm clean ( but with that shit you can never REALLY know if you are totaly clean).

I run Ad-Ware SE once every few weeks, with all the setting turned on and all it every fines are cookies, and my hijackthis log is clean.

However, once I'm done tonight I will log into safe mode with commmand propt only, and run my spyware shit again ... man I'm will to try anything right about now.

thxs in advance.

I use DVD Decrypter and shrink also And have only had a few problems. I'm trying to copy Hidalgo and I keep getting an error message. This also happened to me when I tried to copy Resident Evil 2. For RE2 I copied the movie directly to my Hard drive with decrypter then copied it using shrink & decrypter again. I tried doing this with Hidalgo but none of these methods work. Can someone help.
Thanks

"Bourne Supremacy" (Region 1 disc) definitely has the new Sony / Columbia copyright scheme built into it. This scheme is called "ArCCos." It introduces some intentional erros in the file structure. The erros are "ignored" by DVD players, but many of the software programs out there will have problems when you try to rip or burn. In some cases, you can burn, but end up with 3 to 6 minutes of blank black screen at the beginning of the film, which can cause you to believe the burn failed.

Terms to search on, at the various forums: "New encryption" and "Sony" and "Arccos"

Also, some of the films that have had this make good search terms: "The Forgotten" and "Layer Cake" and Resident Evil" and "Little Black Book" and "Friday Night Lights"

Read the link below, for a complete list, and some details.

http://forum.digital-digest.com/archive/topic/48842-1.html

I realize this does not help with your "Lord of the Rings Extended Version" backups, but those DVDs have been backed up by many users (including myself) with no problem.

I have just started using the intervideo dvd copy that came with the nero 6.3 and dvd decryter....
I am able to extract main movie files and burn movie with the intervideo in less then 30 minutes start to finnish...
the intervideo also shrinks to fit video to fit the 4.7 disc as it burns...the movie Gladiator 7500mb+ after using dvd decryter, burned onto a 4.7 disc and all the special effects work great to........

doesnt matter if you bought a copy or not...
your buying the movie to veiw, your not buying the copyrights to the movie

Having this exact same issue with West Wing Season 4 - Disc 1...

Burns complete perfectly, yet no player can read the disc... nothing appears to be off when I explore it... just don't get it.

Thanks for some of the good info. I finally got it to work through decrypter then then ran shrink & decrypter again. This has worked for any DVD's I've had problems with using shrink first. This method worked for Forgotten, Resident evil, lord of the rings, & now hidalgo. As for the west wing, try this & see. I don't know if it will work.
