Not sure I follow...

You ran decrypter first, than ran shrink and decrypter again on what you have backed up? Just want to make sure I'm reading that correctly.

yes you read it right. First create a folder in your c drive for the dvd. then open decrypter. click on mode and change it to file f. then go to tools and select settings. in settings select the tab that says file mode. in file mode go to the on startup section and select all for the whole dvd or main movie for just the movie. before you start, change your destination to the folder you created and then click write. this will put the movie in IFO format into the folder. when it's done open DVD Shrink. click on the re author tag without opening a file or disc!!!!! also make sure to take out the movie disc. after clicking on re author click on the dvd browser tab(it should already be on that). click on the hard disc drive you had your folder in ie. c: drive on my computer. now click on the folder you put the movie in. it shold come up for re authoring. now just drag what you wnt to copy over and continue as normal. I don't use Nero so I use dcrypter to wright the movie when shrink is done. but you need to change decrypter's settings back to ISO wright.
I'm sorry it's a little confusing and time consuming but I hope it helped some. I know I'm listed as a newbie but this method has worked for me on EVERY movie that people have had problems with.

GOOD LUCK

I have burned i-robot no prob with DVD43 and 1 click copy but had problems with bourn supremecy. My REAL question is has anyone here tried to burn the tv series 24? It tells me that the VIDEO_TS.IFO is either missing or damaged.....but here is the REAL KICKER. The first two discs of both season 2 and 3 burn just fine but 3-6 end up only playing one episode and the disc goes into a lock up after that. Any help with this situation please let me know. Also what programs do you recommend with XP service pack 2?

thanks

mkraft - re Bourne Supremacy - do a search at top of screen, it's been done to death.

I'd say let someone else answer re episodic discs but you can also find what you need by searching for 'episodic' and '24' and 'season' etc etc

When re-authoring my backed up copies of my DVD (episodic DVD btw), I got a msg that I just wanted to run by you...

"DVD Shrink cannot retain full menu functionality when you re-author a menu. Instead, all menu buttons will be removed, and the menu will be converted into a regular video clip.

If you wish to preserve the original menu functionality, you should backup this DVD in Full Disc mode."

I would like my menu to work hehe. I have tried using Full Disc mode before but continued to get the same issues this thread is about when I tried it with this disc. Am I to take it that the menu becomes completely inoperable this way and I will have to just skip ahead to other episodes on this disc?

Sorry for bein a newb, just wanna stop making coasters :)
Thanks for all the info.

Correct. Using Shrink, the program will let you do the entire disc, and you can compress it if need be so it will fit (although you will of course lose some quality).

Or, you can re-author, but you instantly lose all menu functionality. There is no way around that within Shrink.

You can find other additional software which you can use along with DVDShrink to put that menu functionality back in. But, Shrink alone loses menus always when you choose to re-author.

Sigh... the "solution" is in my reply above.

IF the problems you are having are due to the new Sony Columbia ArCCos copy protection scheme, DVDShrink CANNOT handle these discs. Period.

The latest version of DVDDecrypter can, though, with no problems. So, you can:

1.) Rip the entire disc to hard drive using DVDDecrypter.
2.) If necessary, you can then use DVDShrink on the files on the hard drive to compress, re-author, or whatever method you usually use with DVDShrink.
3.) Finally, you can burn this end result (either the result of number 1, above, or the result of number 2, if you used step 2), as usual. You can use DVDDecrypter, if you like, to burn it. Or, you can use Nero, to do the final burn, if that is your favorite procedure.

IF the procedure above does not work, then the problem is something beyond the new Sony ArCCos copy protection scheme.

Exception: Some of these discs may have some blank space (black screen) for 3 to 7 minutes at the very beginning of the film. IF they do, you can use DVDshrink to simply remove the unwanted portion. Only a few of these new discs have had this issue, and it is related to the copy protection scheme.

For those who need more detail, here is link to LOTS of info about which discs are affected, and why, and how to solve the problems...

as I also stated and explained in detail earlier. using decrypter first will bypass dvd shrinks error problems with almost every movie people are having probles with.

I get the same message on the newer movies. It tells me that the IFO file is not found after I decrypt it and then try to shrink it.

@nikki1971 - try (free) VOB blanker or vobblanker , can't remember which. i've used it a few times, it looks for too complex to me, but i just leave all defaults alone, select all files and press start. From there i just use Shrink as normal. There's also 'IFOEDIT' for which there are guides to using if you search for 'em

Just wanted to let everyone who's tried to give me a hand in on what finally happened...

I tried everything with West Wing Season 4 Disc 1, in the end the only thing that worked was re-authoring the disc and pulling out some of the superfluous stuff to make it fit. I was trying to avoid doing this since I wanted to maintain my menus, but its watchable, and that is the main point for me.

I had tried turning some of the possible copywrite protection stuff into still images, I tried using VobBlanker as well, but nothing seemed to solve the problem for me. If anyone comes across any posts in their travels about people having simliar issues with this season of the West Wing, post a link for me if its not too big a hassle.

Thanks again for everyone's help, gotta love a good community!

Use DVDDecrypter to rip. Use the latest version. Choose: MODE / FILE. Rip to hard drive, and take note of the directory.

Open Shrink. Use "Open Files" option, and browse to the same directory where Decrypter put the stuff.

hey guys, I'm new to this board but not new to backing up DVDs.
In reading this thread,I noticed some ppl had trouble with movies like Bourne Supremacy, RE 1 and 2. And in the case of Vannman I Robot, Lord of the Rings Ext ver. I am using DVDShrink 3.2 and never had a problem with any dvds with the exception of Bourne Identity and the Sony/Columbia movies like House of flying dagger and The Grudge. For anyone having problems, go with DVDShrink 3.2 and you can't go wrong. I have ripped and burned more than 200 DVDs using the earliest version of DVDShrink to the latest.

On the 3rd attempt on ripping the Bourne Identity, I just applied 'No Compression' to the 'Unreferenced Material' Folder for those familiar with DVDSHRINK. Apparently, using compression on that folder caused the error.

On trying to rip the Grudge, I realized after it stopped partway in analyzing it with DVDShrink that it must be a Sony/Columbia movie. So i did a search and it took me to this forum where I was led to this nifty software called AnyDVD. I am encoding The Grudge now so hopefully it will be a success. Thanks for the helpful info.

You can also use the free program DVD Decrypter which will handle the new protection, if you do not want to pay for AnyDVD.
