I just bought a 200GB HDD, which i thought was a Maxtor HD Model 6B200P0, but the device ID in my Device Manager is WDC WD2000BB-22GUA0. I just "installed" it, but it doesn't show up in My Computer nor am I able to save things to it. The Device Manager says it's working properly. How the hell do i get it to show up in My Computer, and to save to it??

I'm sure you are running Windows XP with SP1 as a minimum.
What does your PC say in CMOS for your HDD's?

I didn't partition it nor format it. It's supposed to be plug and play from what i assume. But i'm at work right now so i'll do it when i get home. Is there any easy way to get it done?

You know ddp, when you asked that question, I stepped back and said to myself, no, no way that could be.

ScubaBud, above or below sharkie???
Raiten, if got xp on old hd than goto disk management to make the partition & than goto my computer, right click, properties than format the new drive not the old drive. when buying new hds you have to partition & format the drive before you can use it

I know how to format them, it's just that i didn't think i had to. It's my second HD. I asked if there was an easier way to format it other than going through the way i did for my first one.
