burning 4x -R with sony DRU-510A

ok, it burns +R at 4x but only 2x on -R.

i upgraded the firmware and it seemed to burn 4x for a couple burns, but the burns were bad.

anyone have an idea on what i can do to get it working better short of getting a NEC 16x dual layer for 60 bucks?
