how do i slow down emprex 8x +- dvd

any one know how to slow down my dvd burner it used to burn at 1x 2x 4x and 8x but now since i updated to xp pro and nero 6.6 it only burns at 8x or 4x the max speed of the disc in it, many thanks simon
