I am new to all this and have looked through several threads but have not found my question addressed .. please forgive me if I am repeating a question.
I have just gotten clonedvd2 I have made two DVDs so far.. however it is taking up to 3 hours to make the copies.. is this normal? If not any clue what settings I need to change for a faster burn time. I do not know if this information is needed but I am using Iomega external CD/DVD Super with 16X.. if anyone needs more information please let me know I will be glad to answer any questions.

It shoudnt take 3 hrs to burn 2 movies, I use anydvd/clonedvd2 and per movie it ranges from 35 to 45 minutes to complete.
Have you defraged your hard drive, is you dvd-burner set to DMA, also is your dvd-burner set as master or slave.
Just throwing some questions at ya from stuff i`ve read.
If anyone else has any sugestions, i`m sure they will put nsome input in also.
Hope this helps.

I will go check the DMA, I defrag about 3 days ago maybe as many as 5... Thanks for you input!

Some like them, most don't. What was your actual burn speed setting on your clonedvd2?

Hmm The 1st time I picked Maxium, the second one I picked 8X and the one I am doing now I picked 16X which is what the Iomega Maxium is? (I think that is what you asked me.. remember I am new to all this and may not know exactly what your asking)

For quality and fewer coasters with even good media let alone Memorex, use 4X, no higher on the CloneDVD2 burn setting. Just my thoughts.

If you want a good burn and no skips, etc try setting the burn from anywhere 4x to 2.4x, that helps the laser in the dvd burner to stay in the grooves longer.
Burning dvd movies you burn at slower speed, audio music you can burn at higher speed. So set your speed down to about 4x or 2.4x, i burn at 2.4 x and havent had any problems yet.
But you still need to bring your burn time down some couple hrs per movie is way to long.

You may want to cancel this burn, waste the disc and try the 4X. Shouldn't take more than 20-40 minutes to complete at 4X.

gatlin01,

Hard to speculate when we don't know any system specs or what the movie might be. That's why I gave the range I did.

That means you're reading the disc. Make sure the original disc is clean before trying again. May be having trouble reading it.

And don't run any other programs while burning.

I use three programs to burn my dvds

1. dvd decrypter
It takes around 20 min to save to my hard drive.

2.DVD shrink
It take 20-30 mins to compress the files.

3.I use the trial verson of ashampoo Burning Studio 5 5.0.3. Works Great!!

It takes me 10-15 min to burn.

Gatlin,
I have a Gateway computer...
I tried the cleaning and ding at 4x .. same thing.. total time from scanning, processing and burning was 6 hrs & 21 mins.
I downloaded DVD Shrink and it showed time remaining on compression was 3 hrs + There has to be something not set right on my puter or in the DVD prgrams that I am using to copy with.. or heck it could be the dern burner itself... there is an answer out there somewhere.. just dont know where yet! I really appreciate all the help that ya'll are giving to me!

I seen this posted earlier in the thread along with some other good advice, and you have neglected to answer any of the important questions asked? People here are trying to help you, but your not helping them to help you.. So let me ask these already asked questions that very important to the reasons you may be encoding so slow..

1. Have you checked your USB setting? (should say "enhanced USB" in device manager)

2. What is the speed of your processor? (right click on "My Computer" select properties look at the bottom)

3. What other software do you have loaded on your system? (DVD/CD copying software in particular)

4. Do you have a DVD ROM drive on your PC? It will process much faster than a DVDRW drive.

5. Is this a laptop computer or desktop?

memorex 8X is ok media. burning depend on RAM & CPU speeds. Ckeck to see if there is any programs useing too much of you ram. If you CPU is less than 1.2 ghz that will effect burn sppeds. The CPU & RAM have to CACHE the files before the actual burn to DVD.

It is certainly a brave man who says that!

Most here do not like memorex media. It is too unreliable. You may have success with it, but I do not know of anyone here who would recommend it.

Is it me, or has nobody suggested DMA in the improving of burning times?

that would help if we were talking about an internal IDE DVD RW, but NascarFan is talking of an external burner. Of course if his Hard drive isn't in DMA mode this could be a problem but that is highly unlikely.
