I need help here,
How do i resize the vob to fit on a 4.7gb dvd, keeping dolby 5.1 intact. I realise video quality may be reduced.

Please read through the forum posts before asking these... To put it simply, first you need to try to get rid of unnecessary streams (like Mongolian AC3 audio track, Polish subtitles, etc) of your video using VOBRator. If the DVD fits under ___4.36GB___ (which is the limit for DVD-Rs, the stupid 4.7GB is marketing hype and total b.s.), you're good to go. If not, you need to re-encode the video, using ReMPEG2 or similiar tool.

I know i need to rip the languages, the vob is 4.7gb with all that taken out. Im not sure how to do the conversion, keeping 5.1. Most guides i have read choose to use PCM 2channel audio.

Uh... One option might be to Demux the VOB using TMPGEnc's MPEG Tools -- this way you get the AC3 out, then re-encode the MPEG-2 video stream using TMPGEnc or ReMPEG2 and use some authoring software to create the DVD using the new MPEG-2 video stream and AC3 audio you extracted using TMPGEnc.

ok i have now got the movie down to a decent size, using rempeg2, i then had to merge the origional vobs, in order to extract the ac3 soundtrack using Mpegutils.

What software will record the m2v file and my ac3 5.1 soundtrack.

cheers

You need an authoring software like Prassi, DVDIt, Spruce, etc..

I can't get ReMPeg2 to encode my video streams. I made the movie.cffl file, it analyzed my streams, i set the scale factor, and then press encode at the main screen but even after leaving the program going for a day it showed 0% progress made and my processor usage was 0%. What am i missing?

did it check the film ok, how long did the check go, i think the movie.cffl file has to be named in capitals, otherwise it doesnt look at the vobs.

if thats ok and you set the resolution to 720x480, frame mode as match source, press re-encode, it will ask for a file name to output too, and then you should see the decode / encode picture tabs count up.

I encountered something odd after rencoding star wars :The Phantom
menace with rempeg.

After rempeg made the m2v file ...down near the final third of the movie I started to see random blue & red squares popping up all over the screen .....occupying about 10% of
the screen at any given time.....
Looks like compression cosine errors....anyone had/solved this prob?

Rempeg was set at Predictive, match source, and 63% for a 3.7MBits/sec rate to fit movie at 4GB.

I've got a problem with DVD It. I succeed to demux the full movie and resize to fit on a 4.7 Gb dvd but when I try to remux the m2v and ac3 files, DVD It sends me this message "data exceeded multiplexable birate".
What's the problem ?
