I am having a problem with my Lite-On SOHW-1633s DVDRW drive. I've researched all the websites and threads I could find and tried almost everything.. I'm hoping someone here will be able to help me out!
I have used this drive many times to burn dvd's, and not had a single problem until recently when I built a new computer and added the drive. I installed an Abit NF7-m board, installed a new HD, and a clean install of Windows XP sp2. I am running Nero 6 ultra edition, DVD Decrypter, and DVD Shrink. The firmware was updated to the latest version when I had my old system and the drive functioned just fine.
The problem I am having is that everytime I try to burn a DVD with Nero, the burn fails after the lead-in. This happens regardless of what type of DVD I am trying to burn. If I try to burn a DVD with DVD Decrypter, the burn also fails and gives me I/O errors. I am using Verbatim media, and have never made a single coaster with it before rebuilding my computer.
If I try to burn a CD with Nero, it burns just fine. The drive also functions perfectly when reading CD's or DVD's. I noticed by using Nero InfoTool that ASPI was working for Nero, but not my system.. so I installed an ASPI layer and now it is showing up as being installed and working. I have tried both versions of ASPI (4.6 & 4.7) and neither seems to fix the problem.
One strange thing I noticed was that all of my IDE devices (hard drive, dvd-rom, and dvdrw) are all showing up as SCSI in the device manager. I don't recall seeing them designated as SCSI on my old system. I am tempted to buy a new DVDRW burner, but I never had a single problem with it before building this new computer... so I have a feeling that the problem is software related.
