My hp 300c doesn't recognize empty cd's but it finds empty dvd's

When I tryed erase a cd-rw some days ago my computer just hang up so i was forced to restart the computer. After that my dvd-burner didn't recognize empty cd-s just dvd's. I have tryed to update my firmware and i have also tryed to uninstall the secondary ide channel but no luck. Is there a way to fix it?
