Okay, This is driving me nuts. Lemme give you a run down of my system first:

AMD XP 2500+ CPU
512MB Ram
Gigabyte Mobo GA-7VM400M-P F4 AWARD BIOS

Now the Important stuff. I picked up a Samsung Dvd+-r/rw TS-H552U today. So I brought it home to install. Now the IDE cables:

IDE-0:
Set to CS: Western Digital 40GB, on which WinXP home Resides, 2GB free
Also set to CS: Western Digital 120GB HD, For everything else, 12GB free.

Before the attempted installation of the Samsung on IDE-1:

Set to Master: LG 52x24x52 CD-RW
Set to Slave: LG DVD-Rom Model: GDR-8161B

Also a Virtual Drive G: AXV cd/DVD-rom Scsi CDRom Device loaded by way of Alcohol 120% and a Share network Z: mapped to another WinXP box by way of Router.

Now I wanted to pull the DVD Rom and install the DVDR/RW in it's place, So I switched them. Now at first I left the Samsung set to CS, hooked it all up and powered on. Samsung never showed in Bios, and not in windows either obviously. So I said" Hmm. must be a jumper problem." Switched it to slave so that it was slaved to the LG CD-RW.

That's when it got wierd. Powered up and then IDE Auto-detect started as normal, but went on too long and then showed All IDE slots except 3.5inch, as being None. checked the IDEs in case they came loose. They weren't. So I discod the Samsung and rebooted. Same, Disco'd the LG so that IDE-1 wasn't plugged to anything at all. Rebooted, both HDDs came up normal. Tried various configurations of the LG and Samsung, of Slave and Master and CS, Moved the Ends of the IDE from one to the Other, but it boils down to I need to have them both off the IDE to boot now. I've never heard the Like. Have you?
