I have used DVDShrink and a Nero combination in the past to burn DVD's. Now along comes Sony, Tristar & Columbia with ARccOS. Will the latest version of AnyDVD get around the new encryptions?
I need to back up my newer DVD's. My kids are rough on my DVD's.

Thanks Bilbo ... I have already downloaded DVD Decrypter and backed up up a Sony movie (13 Going on 30)to my hard drive but I still can't get it a copy of it made. I receive the same error message as if I were using DVD Shrink by itself, "I/O error". Is there a site I can visit for detailed information? The "How to use DVD Decrypter guide".

I will do ... creaky, but not until tonight. In the meantime what is the best way to use DVD Decrypter along with DVD Shrink? Do I open both at the same time and run one first before the other? I usually get my message from DVD Shrink "copy protection I/O device error". I will get the exact error later.

arniebear beat me to it..!
there's a few ways to do it..First of all decrypter os a great prog but i've been spoilt with the ease of Shrink; i personally use decryptor to get all files onto hard drive, then use Shrink on that directory. There are better ways; i really only use decryptor to get round arccos or grimy discs that Shrink won't touch...

Also, make sure your burner firmware is up to date, do a spyware/virus scan, and defrag your hardrive, this may help with your error. Use good media to burn such as Verbatim, Sony, Maxell and of course TY.

Annie & Creaky thanks to both of you.
Creaky I tried the entire disc to a selected folder with Decrypter and than ran Shrink afterwards. A whole day later. I had to Shrink because of the size issue.
Shrink spit out a hairball and told me where to go.
Annie thanks for the guide. I will extract only the main movie and see how that works.
You folks are great :)

Arnie and Creaky it seems to have worked. I was able to successfully copy 2 that have been giving me difficulty. However 13 going on 30 did not play correctly in the older DVD player. I will try it in the newer DVD player tonight when I get more time. Maybe it's time to send the old one out to pasture. We will see :)

Virtual4 - nice one!....
Quote: However 13 going on 30 did not play correctly in the older DVD player
..... could be crap media or compatibility issues; what media you using...?. and what you used to do the actual burn..

Memorex 8x DVD-R burned at 4x using Nero Express (a version of Nero 6)
on an Aiwa (model # not with me at work) player.
Memorex have sometimes given me problems in the past. So I am aware of the issue.

We have reached the end of this saga. Even though it is "Memorex" both movies played perfectly on the newer of the two DVD players.
Thanks to arnie, creaky & bilbo. I am back to saving the life of my DVD's from the hands of my children. :>)

@noinsults - did a quick google, didn't find much, what's the name of your film ?.
Plus have you tried turning off AnyDVD and trying again.
Another way would be to try (free) just DVD Decrypter in file mode. grab all files to hard disc and use DVD Shrink from there.
plus have a search at top of page

Virtual4 This my sound weird but wheh I first started this DVD coping I burnt about 25 coasters before I found out what I was doing wrong.
My back ups would play just fine on my stand alone DVD players but when I tried to play them on my $800.00 Panasonic DVD player I could watch a 2 hour movie in 30 seconds. thats when I found out that my Panasonic would only play back region 1 DVD while the cheap stand alone didn't give a damn what ya put in them. Just a thought

Happy ... I am set. I appreciate your comments but my issue was getting around Sony/Tristar/Columbia Pictures new encryption ARCCOS.
I was going to go with AnyDVD but I went with DVD Decrypter instead.
I've had some coasters in my life but not to many. Usually it is the media.
