Problem Resolution For External USB DVD Writers

Most if not all of us who own an external DVD writer are or have had problems. The end result was and is too many coasters but there is something you can do to resolve the issue at hand. First and foremost, you will need to make sure that you update the drivers for your USB controller. Most of us have an Intel chipset so the ideal solution is to update the driver we have been using.

Once you are certain that you know how to update a driver, follow the steps below to remedy the situation.

1. Launch Device Manager in Windows and locate the USB controler that is listed and if it is an Intel model you are in luck and should proceed to continue with the rest of this.

2. Go to http://www.intel.com and do a search for Chipset ID Utility then download it.

3. Do another search for Chipset Installation Utility and download it for your OS. *Read the release notes to make sure your chip is covered. If you do not know run the chipset id utility and it will list your chipset in the top box. (informational only)

4. When you are certain your chipset was listed in the Release Notes for the Chipset Installation Utility, simply run the installation utility and reboot when prompted.

5. Enjoy error free burns from now on.
