Hello.
I've been thinking about buying a Zynet Polar 3,5"
extern "hard drive holder" (I'm from Sweden, don't know what to call it...)
for 400 SEK (55$)

that you put a hard drive in and connect it to the computer with USB 2.
So, now I ask those of you who has one, or know anyone who does - Is it any good?

I don't have USB 2 so use FireWire. The firewire version of their case is no good. I can't seem to boot from ANY firewire drive as long as this obviously untested piece to Taiwanese junk (DYNAMIC SYSTEM ELECTRONICS CORP /Zynet Polar Hd-D5-U2FW/Prolific PL3507 Combo Device/WDC WD25 00JB-55FUA0) is attached to the bus. Just wasted a whole day on this. Nothing in their FAQ about booting. I wonder if they have ever heard about booting from a firewire drive. Also, the case got abnormally hot when it remained in this failed state till morning. It is usually just luke warm (like your forehead when you've got the flu) but it became almost too hot to hold.

I can boot from any other firewire device, unless this thing is on the bus. Then no device is bootable, and anything downstream disappears completely. One wonders why they bothered putting the extra port in. Recommend against buying any drive with a chip numbered PL-3507 03497A
