@cenap,
Yeah, I did try what you described the other day--it did not help me. My 'read speed' is the same as 'current speed', 24X. And I am not so sure about the connection between this 'read speed' and the actual writing. Anyway, thanks!

@creaky,
Thanks for the answers! It sounds that I definitely should get a few brand name CDRs to try out. My guess is that the drives are marginal, both my original one and the replacement. So about 50% of my burning-attemps with the CDRs I had failed power calibration. I could not rule out software issues at this point either. I should have reinstall Nero at least.
BTW, I rolled back to ASPI 4.60 from 4.71.2 to get rid of the 'corrupted system ASPI' reported by Nero info tool. It did not help.

@jfish, cheers. When cost isn't a factor it becomes daft to choose lesser media. I pretty much only use CD's for audio and i always get great results, however you have to try really hard to get cheapy CD's that are actually really bad i think, these days

After a long period enough to forget the trics I had previously explained I also had difficulty in burning VCD and I had the same warning "POWER CALIBRATION ERROR".

Finally I solved the problem with the same way again!!!

The only way I could solve this problem was again using nero drivespeed using "options" and "detect" buttons after ejecting and inserting the CD tray A FEW TIMES INSISTINGLY and making drivespeed detect the speed as the CD spins inside (listen to the sound of the speed and be sure that it slows down as you lower the CD read speed which shows that you have the control). Furthermore press BURN button your Nero project as the CD spins!!!!
