I tried to decompress the audio to a wav using Virtualdub but NFG.
Thinking that maybe I'm missing some rare codecs, I ran the Nimo pack and installed several I knew were missing. Then I installed the Zoom player because I knew it could detect other codecs missing from your system. I installed whatever was reported. So, now that I've got everything under the sun, I try to play it. NFG.
These screens show installed codecs on my system:
Can't show all of Direct show or Direct media- too many.
Nice list. I don't exactly know what you mean. What codecs are you missing? If the app says the video has an Mp3 audio stream then you need an Mp3 decoder installed. It looks like you do from what you posted.
The main thing that worries me is that you have the Nimo codec pack installed. Did you install the entire codec pack? I would advise you to uninstall it if you did. Yep thats right, uninstall the Nimo pack. Then see if the file will play. If it won't play, manually install the latest Xvid and the Codecs for Windows Media Player 9 files (if you have win XP).
If your succesfull I'll gladly talk to you about what other codecs you need and why I like the Kazaa lite codec pack (full) offered here at AD. Also as a general rule never install an entire codec pack, unless you know what your doing, because it just gets things (your PCs media decoder reg.) congested and un-managable.
No, I didn't install the entire Nimo pack. Only certain codecs, like the Xvid one I was missing. File didn't play audio before I installed some codecs, still don't. I installed each codec individually, and checked to be sure I wasn't installing any dupes (using AVIcodec & Zoom to tell me what I had/needed) Funny that you mention the K-Lite pak & the dangers of installing a whole package. I learned the hard way from K-lite to never do that. After I installed that whole thing, I had conflicts w/ every player I had, if I wanted to watch an on-line video fistfights would break out on my hard drive. Probs were so bad, I had to un-install everything including my video drivers & software. I wouldn't touch K-Lite with cattle prod!

What I mean is- I have an MPEG whose VIDEO I can see but whose AUDIO won't play.
Cool, no I understand that much. I just don't understand why AVICodec is telling you that you support the codec used to encode the file when you don't. Actually, the Mp3 format should be natively supported.
Im very glad to hear that you learnd from you mistake. So with all that out of the way:
1) Try GSpot instead of AVI codec (for a 2nd opinion). Its rendering featur has been useful to me in the past.
2) Make sure your Windows codecs are all installed and registard correctly.

I have found that the K-lite codec packs (the full and standard in particular) offerd by AD to be of good quality (clean). WARNING: The K-lite Mega codec pack is for encoding / decoding pros. There will never be a need to install all of the K-lite mega or full codec packs for normal video viewing or encoding!
I had this problem a month or so ago with a movie, it was the xvid codec messing with service pack 2, You have to use the very latest xvid codec, You can Google for it. The guy that wrote it made a new one and it works great. Also There is a really good codec Pack that comes with Kazaa that you can use seperately without messin with the Kazaa , I use it and then get the latest Xvid an I never seem to run into any codec issues after that. So Far anyhow. (knock on wood) You should always look for any new ones comming out though, as with any software its constantly changeing. Updateing is a way of life with computers.
