What kind of games are you looking to play at what resolution/settings? And what price range are you looking at?

I would recommend the X700 256MB.

I like fps games so it needs to run really smooth price range about $170 or £100

Get the X700 then, it's under the $170 mark I think. If it's not then go for the 9700 Pro, you still get brilliant FPSes with that.
Medium graphics cards often cost $200 - $220.

I tend to buy from trusted resellers that sell electronic goods a lot cheaper than superstores such as FutureShop/BestBuy, so I can't really give you a card within a price range.

However, if you search on sites such as Newegg, I'm sure you'll find excellent deals. If you do not wish to purchase online, one thing you can do is go to your "preferred" store and make a list of all the cards that are within $150 - $170 and I'll recommend one that is worth your money.

Hi Kyle, i use the normal 6600GT (not overclocked ), got it last wednesday and am really impressed with the performance i paid 120 uk for it (inc p&p). Have now fitted a Thermaltake giant III cooler to it, a bit O.T.T but better safe than sorry and have overclocked it to 586core/1114memory stock was 500core/900memory. The perfomance is superb

Aww... Kyle you ain't even compiled a list yet for me. =(

Lol just playing, they are all great suggestions, however with Nvidia cards I think you will need an extra power cable which will cost you more, or am I wrong?

based on the 5 choice's you have there i would go for the 6600 as it has 8 pixel pipes (double what the others have) giving better overall performance , just out of interest do those price's inc vat ? if not you really are better off going for the 6600GT as it has DDR3 memory as opposed to DDR1, faster core & memory speed and will out perform the 6600 and the others in the list, the earlier link i posted for novatech is where i got mine for £122.19 all in, just my opinion as i went through all this the other week trying to choose a mid range/price graphics card, anyway good luck with your choice and let us know how you get on ;)
