Having mastered single dvds I am now trying to split one onto 2 dvd-s usine dvd decryptor and ifoedit like it says in your guides.

Second disc burns ok in Nero but Nero won't do the first one. It comes up with an "unexpected exception".

I did exactly the same to both subdirectories - copied Video ts files and first vob set. Used ifoedit to get vts sectors and saved all ifo and bup files.

Any hints??

Probably because you didn't get VTS SECTORS.
I always copy Video_ts.xxx and VTSxx.xxx to Dir: (example) Movie1 & Movie2 also copy any extras to those directories, previews, making of. Check the movie to see what chapter is best to split it, a non action slow part of movie so you don't miss anything when swaping discs. Has to be near the middle chapter for big movies. Split to 2 dvd's, open video & vts-ifo in ifoedit, go Region free, Remove P-ups, get VTS sectors-don't do the other sectors when prompt, Save. Your Done Been doing like this for a long time never any problems. I usally put 2/3 of movie on first disc, remainder & extras on second.

Thanks for your advice.

In the end I deleted the ifos and got ifoedit to recreate them. Even then, Nero wouldn't do it so I burned to a RW disc in Easy CD Creator (Roxio) and it worked fine. This is SO much more involved than copying cds. Half the fun is in the chase, so to speak.

One question, though. Do I HAVE TO put the extras on one of the discs?? If I leave them off will it still work??

try play those files("disc" 1 and 2 folders) in dvd software player and if the movie playes ok then dont use nero directly to burn those files... make image with IfoEdit and burn that...

nero is not very good DVD burning software!

TeeGee,

I like your attitude !!

"Half the fun is in the chase, so to speak."

That's the way to go !!

To answer your question :-

Do I HAVE TO put the extras on one of the discs?? If I leave them off will it still work??

Yes, your disc should work just as well. I have ripped loads of DVDs and NEVER ripped any extras. In fact, to quote you "I'm just about to start a "new" chase".
