Since we've been having a LOT of threads that ask the same questions, I've wrote a FAQ/Suggestion. I'm going to be straight to the point here so that it doesn't become unappealing to you non-grammatical lazy folks. =)

Please try not to post in here unless you have something REALLY important to add, as n00bs generally don't read threads more than a page long. I would politely request for this topic to be stickied and closed if it's possible.

NOTE: Many people have been having speed issues with the latest version of Azureus. I recommend sticking with 2.2.0.2. for now.

1. HAVE YOU PORT FORWARDED YET?

There are many guides on www.google.com that you can search for port forwarding. IF YOU HAVE A ROUTER or A FIREWALL, you need to port forward!

2. ARE THERE ANY FIREWALLS YOU DON'T KNOW ABOUT?

Check if you have Windows XP Firewall activated! Go to Control Panel > Network Connections > Click on your connection > Properties > Advanced Tab, see if the box is checked!

If you're going to use a firewall, don't use Windows XP, there are MUCH better ones out there.

3. EXPERIENCE SLOW SPEEDS? HERE'S WHAT YOU CAN TRY!

a) Download from different sites. Sites that require registration are usually A LOT faster than sites that don't. Try EliteTorrents, FileList.org, TorrentBytes.net

b) If you're using a low port number such as 6881 for BT downloads, then chances are your ISP has blocked it. Use a higher port number such as 53000.

c) Make sure your upload is set at 20 - 25kbs+ otherwise you might not be able to download to your maximum potential! Don't be a selfish leecher!

4. BEST BT CLIENT AVAILABLE?

I would recommend Azureus, it is newbie-friendly, fast, and easy to set up. But there are LOADS of excellent ones out there, so try 'em out and see what you like!

5. WHAT ARE SOME OTHER THINGS I CAN DO?

a) If you know your modem is old and your friends all have shiny new ones, chances are that your connection is limited by your old rusty modem! Call your ISP to replace it with a new one, it is usually free!

b) Computer feeling bogged down as well as the internet? Scan for spyware and viruses!

Recommended Spyware Programs: Ad-aware, Spybot

Recommend Anti-Virus Programs: AVG, McAfee, Norton Antivirus

c) READ OUR GUIDES AND USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION! It's there for you!

Everyone is entitled to their own true opinion. Either respect that or don't.
