Hi All,

Recently, dvd's burnt using liteon 811s, they come up with error message "UNRECOVERED READ ERROR (031100)". Liteon 811s dvd write, windows 2000 sp 4, using nero , dvd santa software to burn.

Burning phase is without errors. But reading same dvd doesn't read either in dvd-rom drive or same dvd writer drive.

I have burnt lots(100's) of dvd's before. Recently this problem started happening. Tried burning at 2x, 2.4x, 4x and 8x, all results in same problem. Sure it is not problem with media because both the media's i am using for a long time and they were working fine until this problem started.

Thanks for your help/advice in advance.

lol, morning Nat!!.... i'm on the case i'll see if i can find your problem...

Post your relevant section of Nero log (minus serial number!)

edit- all i can find so far is -http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?threadid=91037
I'm thinking it's media ..

ps i've been copying from some Datawrite Yellow 8x -R discs last night, they are not very good quality, (most took far too long to copy from, one even took 2hours and help from dvd decrypter AND vob blanker). I checked some and they were media code CMC which can only mean baaad things..

ngodina,
Your disk has a bad spot and that is what the message means. To somewhat verifyy this D/L DVDinfopro(free) and run a CRC test on the disk. I would do as creaky suggests and maybe try a better brand of blank media. The media brand name might be the same but the real manuf. of the disks could be different

i can see you've set the limit to 4300mb, i know when we've spoken you've done the firmware, booktype etc etc. This burn was at 8x though you said you've tried all other speeds. mcc as a media code is top - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/164832, but i'm still not convinced these datawrite's are that good.

Is that Nero Express you've used ?. I myself use just Burning Rom

what did dvdinfopro make of one of the burnt discs ?

Here's a recent log of mine (sorry they're all successful too, but it might help highlight something) -

Using DVDinfopro when i do speed test, it displays lot of errors.

Not sure if this helps. Yesterday I burnt 9GB onto two DVD+RW wihtout even single issue.

Please let me know if you find/identify any information.

Also ordered some verbatim MCC dye 8X ones. Let us see how it goes.

Thanks,

Here is the latest update.. annoying experience.

I got verbatim 8x DVD+R and they are also resulting in same problem.

I checked with verbatim website, mcc003 dye disks are compatible with my dvd writer liteon 811s. Liteon compatibility list as well includes mcc003 disks.

Any ideas please...

i would use dvdinfopro again and try a CRC check on the failed Verb's. I think you should try a couple of my Verb's and i'll try a couple of yours, and crc check them all, then do the same on each other's drives. To start trying to rule out if this is a drive problem.

edit - i forgot to mention a problem i have last night with my first 2 failed Verbatims (shock horror!) -

I was copying a bootable Solaris DVD for work, last night, so i copied the original as a Nero img file under 4GB or something. This copied to hard disc perfectly. Next i used dvdinfopro (free trial) to run a CRC check on the disc i copied from (Mirror Platinum 4x or smiliar). This CRC check passed with flying colours.
I thought this would be a good excuse to use my Verb's at their rated 8x for the first time. The first burn failed at writing the lead-in stage, well it took 8mins to be still writing the lead-in so i canned it. I used another Verbatim, again at 8x. This one worked 100% in the burn process. Next i used this Verbatim disc to rip another disc image FROM, now Nero complained near the beginning of rip with a couple of read errors. So i CRC checked it and as suspected - CRC errors near start of disc.
Next i used another Verbatim 8x, but this time at my normal habit of 4x. CRC checked the disc - 100% fine. Used this disc to copy another image FROM. 100& successful. Wrote this image to another Verbatim at 4x again. CRC checked 100%.

So even on this v good media on a fast up to date PC, my 8x media was error'ing out unless i used 4x. Now here i must add that i have burnt probably 300 movies on these 8x Verb's, at 4x only without one single burn error or playback error and have CRC checked a fair few 100% also.

update - CRC checked my (Verbatim) copy of a movie. Zero errors as expected (plus had watched this disc couple nights ago). Copy/pasted files from this DVD to hard disc. Burnt this at 4x to a Datawrite mcc003 printable disc. Burn 100% successful (Nero). However upon CRC checking the mcc003 disc, at least 7 CRC errors before i stopped the scan. Retried the CRC check of both discs on my dvd-rom drive to rule out my burner being faulty. Stopped scan (on dvd-rom drive) after 6 errors.

Plus looked at the underside of the mcc003 disc, the dye pattern is very uneven. Just an observation.

I burnt Datawrite mcc003 at 4X speed. It burnt successfully. Speed test and CRC test does not show any errors. I was bit surprised to see that Nero identified this disk as Verbatim MCC003. May be they were made for Verbatim.

I am going to postpone returning of these Datawrite DVD+R's for some more time and do some more testing this weekend. This week I am also going to test Imation and some Verbatim DVD's as well.
