V525 ringtone problem ??

Hey all, just got a v525 and have got it working with a data cable so i can transfer mp3's over to use as ringtones. firstly can the phone use mp3's as a ringtone as i have tried half a dozen and they play fine from within the phone menu but when set as a ringtone and the phone is called no sound is heard. It is set to 'Loud' and has full volume so i presume it should work , is there something i am missing ? do the mp3's have to be of a certain length, bit rate etc or in a specific directory?

Any help would be greatly appreciated
