BTW, ramada:

I decrypted HOFD using DVD Decrypter, then burned it using DVD Shrink on my NEC 2510, and it played beautifully on my Toshiba DVD Player. Unlike AnyDVD, these are free (my NEC 2510 and my Toshiba player were not, however). I have faced hardware compatibility problems in the past, but that is no longer the case.

Thank you all.
Alcohol: DVD Shrink hangs up just trying to do the analysis. It's not usable this way. That's why I must start with Decrypter, which can rip the movie.
Dr.Chaos - I rip the movie, then oper Shrink, go to "open disk image", go to the folder where the ripped files are located, but no files appear in the directory (They are there - I can see them if I look with Windows Explorer, but they are not visible under the Shrink sequence). Now, I onry ripped the movie itself. Would it be better if I started by ripping the whole disk?

OK I did it. Disregard the previous message. Strangely, if I start with DVD Decrypter and choose Main Movie only, I can't do it. But if I choose the entire disk, I can then find the .mds file that DrChaos mentioned, launch Shrink, and all is well. First try, I backed up the entire disk (it failed, by the way, on a +RW disk, but did fine on a simple +R). Now that I have that, I'll try to remove some secondary stuff with Shrink, and try again.
Thanks for the help.

HOFD was successfully ripped by either Decrypter or DVDShrink+AnyDVD.
In order to keep the menu and high quality, I used VOBBlanker to split it into 2 discs. But VOBBlanker shows the error message when processing the ripped file VTS 11. (The last line, Unsynchronized)
I tried not to blank out anything but the problem still existed.

The error happened on both files ripped by Decrypter and DVDShrink+AnyDVD.
Whtat is the "Error reading input VOB: Unsynchronized"?
How to solve the problem? Thanks a lot!

i first tried x-copy with AnyDVD running.that worked great until it came time to open the file and burn the disc. so then i tried decrypter in file mode still had a hard time,so then i tried decrypter in iso mode. it copied fine but kept showing-cracking css,and it did this at least 5 times.after that i went to shrink, couldnt find the file.so i found it with explore and dragged it to shrink. everything went good after that.however there were alot of things that popped up in decrypter, shrink and Nero. i just ticked ok and came out with a great movie.

open DVD Shrink. with dvd inside the drive.open disc let it analysis.then Re author.select the main title that would be your movie you want to encode.now click on to set start/end frame.then click start frame' forward it for about 10 frame then click on O.K.now back it up to folder.and everything should work fine.

I will say without a doubt it is a bad DVD.
Get another DVD and use either DVDD or Shrink.
I found that if you have a problem(error) 9 times out of ten.
It's a scratched DVD,DVDD and Shrink both worked for me.

I can back up the movie with the latest DVD Decrypter + DVDShrink. For some reason, though, I can't save the English subtitles. (I'd much rather read subtitles than listen to the cheesy dubbed version.)

I ripped the entire disc with DVDD. Then, in DVDS, I selected the the main movie file ("Title 1"). After DVDS's analysis, I included the English subpicture tracks. However, though I've tried previewing the movie with each of the subpicture substreams selected, there are no subtitles. What am I doing wrong? Thanks!

(I might add that I can open the same files in FlaskMPEG and see the subtitles---so they're there.)

the dvdshrink preview does not show the subtitles, just make sure the subtitles box is ticked and they will appear on ur backup

Huh, how about that, you're right. It wasn't DVDShrink, it was the way I was viewing the backup: by double-clicking the first VOB. When it ran in my player, no subtitles appeared and none were available.

After reading your post, I decided to try running the player first and opening the backup from there---and the subtitles appeared. So to have subtitles, the player must have to access one of the other files first. Well, ya learn something every day. Thanks!
