I've found through experience that downloading movies is more of a headache than anything.

Not all downloading is of the illegal sort. You can download perfectly legal public domain films at www.archive.org in dvd quality mpeg, just waiting to be authored. I have never had a problem downloading from there or other websites that offer public domain or films made under copyright alternative licenses. It takes much less than a week, leave your pc on overnight...you'll have the film tomorrow.
