Hi there!
I tried to update my firmware but when I did this a massage popped up saying that the download had failed and that Windows would have to be re-started. And then the system re-started automatically. This happend everytime I tried to update the firmware. Now, the system isn't even recognizing the burner anymore. I'm sort of freaking out! Do you guys have any idea?

My burner: Samsung TS-H552B Thanx a lot!

This isn't good. When a firmware flash gets interrupted you can almost always kiss your drive goodbye but there's still a chance you might get a flash to go through.

Did you follow the directions for the flash exactly?

Did you have any other apps running at the time?

Where did you get the firmware? Is it official or hacked?

Yes I had other applications running: I had my internet connection opened and my Anti-Virus and Windows Firewall running.

Yes , I did follow the directions exactly.

The firmaware is from the offical samsung internet site, so there cannot be any doubt about the heritage of the firmware.

Your answer didn't give me a lot of hope. I hope there is still a chance to get this update done properly. Thanx for your effort!

Well we need to get your system to recognize the drive before we can do anything else so let's try uninstalling it through Device Manager:

Go to Device Manager >

Expand the tree for DVD/CD ROM Drives >

Find the drive in question, right click it and go to Properties >

Under the Driver tab, select Uninstall then OK.

Now reboot and Windows should detect and reinstall the drive.

If this doesn't help try the same steps as above except expand the tree for IDE ATA/ATA Controllers and uninstall either the Primary or Secondary controller depending on which one the drive in question is attatched to. Nero Info Tool can tell you which chain the drive is on under the Configuration tab.
