i would beg to differ on the Memorex media~ :) the approach everyone here are taking is fairly close, i too have used DVD Decrypter iso read then iso write w/ no problems...when you THINK about the problem NOT lying with media, it USUALLY is the media that is the problem. :)

memorex media sucks and with the DL, their saga of poor media quality continues...as others have stated, try the Verbatim ones...the quality is FAR superior to the memorex, on sale, they are evenly matched in pricing..might as well go with the better one~

good luck

If you ripped your files in iso read mode then just switch to iso write mode and burn your file. Arrow should be pointing at mode not tools.

PRCOQUI:

>>>Are they able to copy without shrinking the movie so it will be 1.1 copy. <<<<

Correct. The reason some people are spending the additional cash to buy the more expensive dual layer discs is to avoid any compression (or shrinking) at all, which yields a backup copy that is identical in quality to the original.

These people may be in the minority, but some people are viewing their DVDs on very large screens, and the loss of quality that some users never notice suddenly becomes horrible when you magnify the picture to 65, or 93, or 110 inches. Added to this, some people are extremely picky about the quality of image, having been spoiled by viewing a lot of high definition television.

Hope this helps,

PRCOQUI:

>>>>So why use a D/L 8.5. are you loosing the rest?<<<

No. Nothing is lost.

>>>Those program will shrink you copy.<<<<

Yes, the programs you mentioned will "shrink" the files, but this also means that they are reducing the quality of the picture, if the original was a dual layer commercial disc. And, the reduction is often noticable, and sometimes unacceptable, especially for some people.

>>>Are they able to copy without shrinking the movie so it will be 1.1 copy. <<<

Yes.

You might do a search on "dual layer" to get a better grasp on this.

Dear friends I discovered (at least I hope) the correct way to make full copies (unfortunatelly) from the original one's. I'm using clone DVD with anuDVD running in yhe backround for making the .iso images and then with the same tool burn the dvd's with this method i dropped one out of five dl fiscs since now (bad media prompted from clone DVD). Since now I could'nt find a way to reauthor the compilation, such as dropping menus and extras which I don't have to see them over and over again since they are already in the original. And/or combine more movies on the same dl disc.

Hey all,

Here is my method with DVDShrink:

***Don't Compress, Re-Author to get 100%***

1. Cold Boot.
2. Disable AntiVirus and Network Connection.
3. Rip disc - When you hit Backup, Select ISO Image from Drop-Down.
4. Reboot.
5. Disable AntiVirus and Network Connection.
6. Open Nero, Select Open, then Select Image.
7. Burn at HALF the speed the media is rated at.

This works well with both Single and Dual Layer.

Just out of curiousity why are you rebooting between step 3 and 6 why not just burn with Nero after you have used Shrink?

I have not produced any more double layer coasters since I used:
(1). Verbatim or Philips +R DL discs.
(2). Writting in 2.4X usually (which is the certified) or 4X speed and never at maximum.
(3). Using CloneDVD which removes successfully the layer break of the source disc(s).
Theese are my suggestions only!

Well it is always good to burn disks (for music/movies) at the lower speeds. If burning the data disks max is ok....[Experts says it not me ;)]

I reboot to clear RAM.

I have noticed multiple times that I get much better results by 1. Disabling the Network and 2. Disabling AntiVirus.

Lastly, after I Rip the DVD I then Reboot for the Burn.

I suppose I am especially paranoid with the Dual Layer media since it is still around $2+ a Disc.

My Puter is an old Athlon 2000+ with a Gig of PC 2100 RAM; of course it would help to get a new computer.

I have a LG burner and I too am having problems burning DL discs.
This is the sequence of messages I get.

Generating DVD high compatibility borders
Session Fixation error
G: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4163B
Could not perform end of Disc-at-once
Burn process failed at 2.4x (3.324 kb/s)

I'm using Nero 7.0.1.4
Ridata DVD+R DL discs, I have 4 beautiful coasters.
I'm not looking forward to a set of 6.

Any help or idea will be appreciated.
I have had varying failures. Some half burn, some fail to close disc,
some at the start.
I use DVD Shrink to rip DVD to HD and Nero to burn.
Firmware is latest.

Try using DVD Decrypter to do you dual layers. You can rip your disk in ISO read mode then open your MDS file and use ISO write to burn your image. This program works well for dual layers and sets the layer break well. Here is a guide that shows you

http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/Copying%20a%20Dual%20Layer%20DVD%...

I have used this method several times with great success. Using Nero I too made a few coasters.

edzo77,

This is the most important:

1. Cold Boot.
2. Disable AntiVirus & Network Connection.
3. Burn at HALF the Speed the Media is Rated at(or Slower).
4. ***Choose ISO from the Drop-Down in DVDShrink.*** (You will see this Option when you hit BackUp.)

What kind of Computer do you have?

edzo77,
Here is some good advice for you.
For DL media, Verbatim is the only one I can recommend.
For burning, if possible try ImgBurn from an ISO file, Nero is not the best handling the layer break.

Well to burn the DL disks use DVD Decrypter + ImgBurn - as suggested. I have used both the programs and have got working disks no coasters since then....

There is also a thread on this http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/1/250075

Let us know how it goes ;)

Today I was having a problem with ridata dl dvd-r and I found out by upgrading my firmware on my nec 3550a, I solved the problem. It might be worth checking, to see if their are any updates out there. Try cdfreaks and see if they have any upgrades.

Hi, im having problem burning a dvd i copied to my computer today with DVD Decrypter. My dvd burner is a Samsung TS-H552B and the dvd is a 2 disk set they are both about 7Gb each disk. I tried alchohol 120% and DVD Decrypter to burn it to disk but it says not enough space (obviousl). Are both disks duel layer? If so how can i burn it or split the files and burn to 2 dvd's?

ps. my blank dvd's are TDK DVD-R 4.7Gb single sided.

Do you want to split the files, or do you want the each disk to be on it own disk. Either way use DVDShrink you can compress each disk to fit onto a 4.3g disk or you can split them using reauthor mode in Shrink, however you will lose your menu if you do this. Here is a guide for DVD Shrink and burning with Decrypter, there is also a link to dl the program.
