men gforce fx 5200 is a lousy card i think ati 9600xt is a very good video card can play doom 3,farcry like notting no sweat.

remember ati has several configurations for the same model so go thru several model and try to get one with higher memory clock(640-900mhz).
and make sure it comes with big heat sink and fan and memory stick heat spreaders.

hope i help

Didn't want to start a new thread. I don't play any games at all, I watch the occasional movie, and do moderate video editing. Should I get the SAPPHIRE Radeon X300: http://www2.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16814102416
and add a 512 mb stick of ddr2 RAM to get a total of 1 gb
or
get the eVGA Geforce 6600GT: http://www2.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16814130214
and add no RAM?

Any suggestions appreciated.

go with the gforce as specs show it to be twice the capabilities of the sapphire card

usually there is a thermal pad on the heatsink not the cpu if bought as a package. if getting a new cpu heatsink & fan, might come with thermal paste.

I use that same exact 5200 geforce card,, how can you say it is lousy, it is perfect,, sure it isnt the best of the best, but this card can handle all the games fine, and its for a great price to, I would say go for the GeForce,
