I recently got a Netgear Router WGR614, it has two firewalls setting in the router, one is NAT, the other one is SPI (Stateful Packet Inspection).
I am wondering when I do port forword. Do I need to turn off the SPI firewall? Do u guys know what exactly does the SPI firewall do?

The reason is with the SPI firewall on, my download speed seems to be limited, only 20-30kb; however, when i turn it off, the speed goes up by a lot, 70-80kb.

Thank you

That is very interesting. Maybe I should give it a try sometimes.

Occasionaly I get a file that goes super fast (200kbps). My usual speed is about 30kbps. When a file is going 200kbps I don't touch my computer.

If you turned off your firewall. I suggest you dont go on the net while its downloading. Turn it back on when its finished.

But I know nothing about firewalls.

Thanks
